The boys are back in town! And by boys we mean men and women of the fine tradition that is the drive-in movie. Time to introduce the kids to that good old nostalgic pillar of screen culture that is watching a film under the stars in the comfort of your own car. Ahh yes the drive-in movie establishment was good for people of all ages, the kids, the parents and let’s not forget those cheeky teenagers.
It’s been a long time since the Canberra region has had a functioning drive-in, with the last ones being The Starlight and Sundown, the latter of which is supposedly haunted but that’s a story for another time. The new drive-in will use modern technology to bring some favourites to the big screen all while keeping that retro feel.
And if you love Halloween, you’re in luck, as the first official screening is a spooky double; Hotel Transylvania and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Tickets go on sale today and can be picked up from the website. While we can’t guarantee the screening will be as creepy as one at Sundown, we can safely say that it should be a lot of fun. Another cool event to add to the ACT’s cinema calendar and we look forward to seeing what’s next!
