Earlier this month we saw the much anticipated return of JumpCuts! for the year which began with lots of good times and confetti (minus the confetti). For those of you that don’t get out much, JumpCuts! is Canberra’s one and only filmmakers’ ‘open mic night’ taking place on the first Wednesday of the month at The Phoenix. A typical night includes trivia, games, funky music and beer with a few films screened here and there.
We’re pleased to announce that this blog will be sponsoring a choice of a few prizes for ‘Best Use of Theme’. They consist of a free script consultation with the Canberra Screenwriters Group, a half day slot with Digital Content Studios’ studio and equipment and a double pass to whichever movie is being raved about the most (when available). So if that isn’t enough to motivate you out of your creative hibernation then God help you.
The batch of films submitted to February’s screening needed to relate to the theme of “Make Nick and Ellie (our hosts) Cry” and a range of films from Pokemon docs to rap videos were submitted. The winner of the prize went to local filmmaker William He for his short masterpiece #NewYearNewMe. You can see his film along with all the others below:
The next JumpCuts! will be taking place at The Phoenix on Wednesday 1st March. The theme is “Anything Goes!”. Good luck and Godspeed.
